Summary 

As we have noted, creating  its own powerful economic potential and further development is one of the key issues for the independent country. In the economic growth process, special importance is given to the development of the service sector, since many socio-economic problems (such as: employment, increasing revenue etc ) depends on it. Along with many other problems, it is one of the most important, since the unused potential in this field is quite large in our country.

That is why tourism development is a very important issue for the country, especially if the country is rich in the cultural heritage and natural resources. Georgia has always been in the centre of attantion, and even nowadays a lot of tourists visit our country.

The advantage of our region can be based on the development of tourism in the mountain zone. Mountain region in Georgia and in particular in Ajara is untapped by both Georgian and foreign tourists. In this regard, the tourism market is very fast and prosperous throughout the world, including Georgia.

That's why tourism must be one of the contributing factor to the development of mountain economy. It will significantly help in solving a number of problems such as: low level of economic and social life in rural areas, lack of communication and integration with society in terms of tourism, unemployment and faulty infrastructure, rural aging and migration problems.

Based on the above, "The Recreational Potential of Mountain Region of Adjara" deals with the importance of tourism, its advantages and disadvantages, the main peculiarities that promote the socio-economic situation of both the country and the region.

In the thesis we highlited the mountain projects implemented by the government of Adjara. Priorities for development of tourism and its particular directions for mountain regions and future development is proved.

It is necessary to identify sustainable goals of the tourism industry at regional, national and international levels for development of tourism in Georgia's mountainous areas and work out general policy, the following are worth mentioning:

• Benefits for high mountain areas for tourism development
• Determination of tourism safety policy;
• Entrance and leaving of tourists in the country;
• Creation of appropriate transport infrastructure for comfortable commuting;
• Creation of information and advertising systems;
• Protecting cultural and historical sights;

Development of tourism in high mountainous regions in Adjara will stimulate:

• Prolong the tourist season in the region;
• Increase employment level;
• Maintaining the diversity of environmental protection;
• Raising the level of living in rural areas;
• Preserving cultural identity
• Economic activation and entrepreneurial activity of the population.

Based on the above mentioned, this is all the good things that can lead to development of tourism in the mountains of Adjara, taking into account the growth of living conditions.

The main part of the work is devoted to the mountainous region, in particular, Ajara tourism recreational potential, its peculiarities, its directions and the projects fulfilled by the Government. Future strategies and development priorities for the mountainous region and its specific directions.
